Round 2, 37th Overall: Zion Johnson, IOL, Boston College

The offensive line was a clear issue for the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, as the Eagles made things uncomfortable for Ryan all day long. The depth is a serious issue, and with Jalen Mayfield struggling and Matt Hennessy needing some competition, getting help on the interior looks like the right move.

Even if the Falcons want tackle help, Zion Johnson can potentially do both. Johnson played tackle in 2020, but moved back to guard in 2021 where he played in 2019. As a guard, Johnson showed off excellent pop in his hands and balance in pass protection. Johnson has the requisite agility and power to mirror and finish whenever possible. His second level work is good as well, and he’d be a good fit to start right away in Atlanta while also providing versatility to potentially play tackle.

Round 2, 43rd Overall (from TEN): David Bell, WR, Purdue

It may seem odd to see wide receiver on this mock draft, but the Atlanta Falcons only have Calvin Ridley and Frank Darby, a day three pick, under contract past the 2021 season. Bringing some size back into the building makes plenty of sense.

David Bell has the size, but has the athleticism and movement skills as well, both very good for his 6’2″, 205 pound frame. He has a developed route tree and great ball skills, highlighted by excellent high pointing ability and great late adjustments. Bell thrives in contested spots and can be a deep threat as well with his buildup speed. He would play off Ridley and Pitts well.
