3. Washington Football Team

After watching the Washington Football Team lose Ryan Fitzpatrick in week one, they have to be considered at least a darkhorse candidate for the top pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, right?

I want to qualify this by saying and making it very clear:

The Washington defense is probably way too good for them to be picking first overall in the 2022 NFL Draft.

They have one of the scariest defensive fronts in the league and they managed to almost beat the Chargers despite the injury to Fitzpatrick.

With that being said, the New York Giants could have some company in their own division if Washington’s quarterback play takes a big enough dip over the long haul with Taylor Heinicke under center.

Again, I am not certain by any means that it will, but it’s possible.

Quarterback play is obviously a huge difference maker in the NFL and even if you have a really good defense, it doesn’t matter if you can’t score points at a high enough rate.

Washington is going to need Heinicke to step up in a big way if they are going to return to the postseason instead of contending for the number one pick next Spring.
