New York Giants lead top 3 darkhorse candidates for #1 pick in 2022 NFL Draft

1. New York Giants

Well well well…if it isn’t Dave Gettleman and Joe Judge, the general manager and head coach duo of the New York Giants.

Remember Daniel Jones?

He’s the quarterback you (Gettleman) drafted in 2019 who has an astonishing 30 fumbles in 28 career games? He’s the guy you passed on Justin Fields and Mac Jones for in the 2021 NFL Draft?

Remember that?

Remember trading the 11th pick to the Chicago Bears so they could take Justin Fields? Even though Daniel Jones has been one of the worst starters in the league through his first two NFL seasons? Remember that?

The New York Giants were not alone in passing on Justin Fields and Mac Jones, but they have seemingly been exempt from a lot of the criticism which has mainly been directed at the Denver Broncos, but I digress.

In week one, the Giants didn’t look good on either side of the ball, to be quite honest.

Daniel Jones had yet another fumble and the Giants were only able to manage seven points before a garbage-time rushing TD from Jones put them up to 13.

The way this roster looks, if they are able to get fully healthy (a huge if), they should be well out of contention for the top overall pick. If they have more bad luck with injuries and Jones doesn’t find a way to step up, they could be in contention all season long.
