Round 3: Cade Otton, TE, Washington

This may seem like a little deja vu for the Cincinnati Bengals, selecting a Washington tight end on day two. Drew Sample still sits on the roster, and Mitchell Wilcox is a bet on potential, but outside of C.J. Uzomah, the group is very uninspiring.

Cade Otton is near the top of what could be a very good tight end class in the 2022 NFL Draft. He’s one of the better (if not the best) well-rounded talent in the class, and he’s the pick in the third in this Bengals mock draft. He’s a force in the run game, using the explosion and momentum out of his stance to his advantage, and is a big help in pass protection. Otton has good hands to clear contact as a receiver, and has the hands and frame to hold up in contested situations. He even makes some plays after the catch with his toughness and balance.

He’s not the most dynamic receiving threat at the position, but Otton would give the Cincinnati Bengals added protection next to the offensive line and another receiving threat for Burrow. Protecting Burrow and helping out his development and comfort coming back from injury looked like the priority for the Bengals back in April, but the hope is that it’s executed better in 2022.
