While quarterback Kyle Trask has struggled in his first two preseason games for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers their is still hope for him.

To say that Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Kyle Trask is off to a slow start is an understatement. Over his first two preseason games, he has only completed 41% of his passes and thrown for just 166 yards with two picks. While these are stats that usually are an indication of a draft pick being a complete bust that might not be the case with Trask who still shows the long-term potential to develop into a solid NFL quarterback.

The biggest area Kyle Trask is struggling with is his accuracy, which is a shock for a player who completed almost 70% of his passes in college last year. The biggest issue that is causing him trouble is his poor footwork in the pocket. When faced with pressure he tends to get his body off balance and throw with a poor base. Another issue with his poor accuracy is that at times he is slashing the ball across his body which causes his shoulders to drop.

Another concern that is currently hurting Kyle Trask’s game is that he is pressing at times. This is not uncommon for a rookie who is not being helped out much by his supporting cast. This was also an issue Trask also had in Florida’s bowl game against Oklahoma when most of his supporting cast left early for the NFL Draft. However, this game against the Sooners also proved that Trask is a different quarterback when he has a good supporting cast which has not been the case so far in the NFL.

Kyle Trask has been hurt by both the offensive line and receivers he has been playing with in Tampa Bay. In the first game of the season against the Cincinnati Bengals, he put several balls on the money only to have them dropped by his receivers. Then in the game against the Tennessee Titans, he was harassed consistently by the Titans pass rush which had its day with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive line.

One area of Kyle Trask’s game that has actually been better than advertised is his ability to move in the pocket. He has thrown several accurate passes while on the run and has kept plays alive at times with his ability to slide in the pocket. Trask has also shown the ability to run and pick up a couple of yards if he has an open field in front of him.

The last time we will likely see Kyle Trask play this year is in the preseason finale against the Houston Texans. This will likely be a positive for Trask since he will be the third-team quarterback this year, allowing him to spend plenty of time working on his footwork and understanding the team’s offense better.
