2022 NFL Draft: Sam Howell on top of NFL preseason mock draft
The Miami Dolphins may have gotten a little too cute in the 2021 NFL Draft regarding the potential of upgrading at the running back position.
One of the worst-kept secrets going into day two of the 2021 NFL Draft was the Dolphins’ desire to draft North Carolina running back Javonte Williams, only to be sniped by the Denver Broncos who jumped one spot ahead of the Dolphins to get him.
Williams may have even been RB1 on the Dolphins’ board as he was for the Broncos, but ultimately, Miami went other directions with their load of first- and second-round picks in this most recent NFL Draft.
Jaylen Waddle, Jaelan Phillips, Liam Eichenberg, and safety Jevon Holland were their top four picks, all in the first two rounds. They didn’t draft a running back until the seventh round when they landed Gerrid Doaks.
This is a roster full of interesting guys at the running back position, but certainly lacks an RB1 and that is exactly what Isaiah Spiller brings to the table.
From his speed to his vision as a ball-carrier, Spiller is really the total package out there and he’s borderline impossible to take down on initial contact.
With so many other foundational draft choices already in place, the Dolphins could probably afford what would seem to be a “luxury” pick at this juncture of the draft, especially if they have enough team success next season.
