2022 NFL Draft: Ole Miss RB Jerrion Ealy has dynamic skill set
Where Can Ealy Improve?
At just 5’9″, Ealy doesn’t have the elite size of other backs in the class, but he could add some weight to his 190-pound frame to max out. Adding some weight could also bring a bit more to his power profile, as Ealy struggles to gain yardage after contact between the tackles and a bit in space.
Ealy needs to shore up his ability as a blocker, as he’s often tossed to the side by linebackers when picking them up in pass protection. Adding weight could also help there, but being more of the aggressor when picking up blocks could help rather than staying still trying to absorb contact.
Hopefully, we see more of Ealy in the passing game in 2021, as he has just 35 catches in his first two seasons. Ealy has the functional athleticism to refine his craft as a route runner and separate over the middle of the field, and seeing that come to fruition will help.
Final Thoughts/2022 NFL Draft Outlook
Jerrion Ealy is a dynamic running back who should have plenty of attention ahead of the 2022 NFL Draft. His explosiveness and burst are his calling cards, along with manipulating defenders and space. He’s extremely patient and has the hands to be a factor in the passing game.
If Ealy makes things happen with more targets in the passing game and can add a bit to his frame and to his power profile, there’s a chance his 2022 NFL Draft stock can rise. At the very least right now, Ealy has the skills to be a very good chance of pace back, committee back, and receiving back on third downs, something that is very much needed in today’s NFL. He has the potential to be one of the top backs in the class, so 2021 will be a big year for him.
