2022 NFL Draft: 10 players to watch in college football
By Ryan McCrary
4. Derek Stingley Jr., Cornerback, LSU
Derek Stingley Jr. is a 6-foot-1 185-pound cornerback who could potentially be a top-five pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. A big reason why he is expected to go so high is that he’s a tremendous athlete.
According to ESPN, he ran a 4.30 forty-yard dash in high school, which was the best in the class of 2019. Cornerbacks usually don’t go in the top five, but Stingley Jr. has the size and athleticism to be worth picking that high.
He was also very productive through his first two seasons at LSU. as a freshman, he caught 6 interceptions and defended 15 passes. As a sophomore, he was less productive, failing to intercept a single pass, but this is primarily because he played half as many games and opposing quarterbacks refused to test him.
Stingley Jr. is a tremendous press-man corner who does a great job sticking with receivers deep down the field. He should be a very high pick if he stays healthy and performs well at the combine next year.
