Minnesota Vikings: 3 players who will be must-see TV in preseason
2. DJ Wonnum, DE
Sack production off the edge is certainly not the only way to measure a strong pass rush in today’s NFL.
Although sacks are certainly the preferred method for most defenses, pressures and QB hits will also do fine over the course of an NFL season.
The Minnesota Vikings stunk in the sack department last season and weren’t a whole lot better in the QB hits department.
Yannick Ngakoue, who was traded during the season, led the Vikings with five sacks last year.
DJ Wonnum didn’t lead the Vikings in quarterback hits as a rookie, but he finished with some impressive numbers despite playing less than 500 snaps.
Wonnum’s rookie season in Minnesota was productive and he racked up 24 total tackles, five tackles for loss, three sacks, nine QB hits, and 14 total pressures.
He’s having a strong training camp for the Vikings and it wouldn’t be a shock to see him as the starting defensive end to open the season opposite Danielle Hunter. With Hunter commanding plenty of attention, Wonnum should be able to be really productive.
He’s a must-watch in preseason play.
