Las Vegas Raiders: 3 trade options for Marcus Mariota
1. Indianapolis Colts
Beginning with the obvious, the Indianapolis Colts are definitely a team that should consider swinging a trade for Las Vegas Raiders QB Marcus Mariota.
After signing Philip Rivers to a one-year deal in the 2020 offseason, the Colts decided to make a blockbuster deal in the 2021 offseason for Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz.
Wentz was the second overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft after Mariota went second overall in the 2015 draft. Both players had a lot of early success for the teams that drafted them, and somehow both players have fallen off of a cliff due to injuries and inconsistency.
The Colts are now dealing with the aftermath of Carson Wentz suffering a pretty major foot injury that will keep him out for quite a long period of time. In his absence, the team has second-year player Jacob Eason taking the lion’s share of snaps along with rookie Sam Ehlinger behind him.
Without a veteran QB in place, this Colts team is definitely a bigger question mark than they were even with the wild card that is Carson Wentz under center.
Trading for Mariota would not exactly be a cure-all for the Colts, but there’s definitely reason to believe Mariota could be a higher upside option at the QB position than Eason, even as talented as Eason is.
This is the trade destination that makes the most sense, in all likelihood, based on the Colts’ need despite their apparent lack of desperation. For now.
