Outlook

As of August 2, 2021, VegasInsider.com has JT Daniels as the third-best odds to win the Heisman Trophy behind only Spencer Rattler of Oklahoma and D.J. Uiagalelei of Clemson. Those odds will almost certainly be different five weeks from now, as Georgia plays Clemson at a neutral site in Charlotte as the featured ABC game of the night on September 4, 2021.

Even if Georgia were to lose that game, which I think they probably will, the Bulldogs will likely be favored in every game after that (except for maybe Florida), up to the SEC Championship game, if they were to make it.

Despite the ACL injury to his #1 receiver George Pickens, things are set up nicely for JT Daniels to have a big year. Two of Georgia’s top three receivers, the tight end, and all of their running backs are returning. So opposing teams will be forced to put extra defenders in the box to avoid getting gashed. This could mean single coverage on the outside.

This will be Daniels’ second year in the Georgia system, and he should be more comfortable with it and his teammates. He could have come out last year as he was three years out of high school, but he wisely used a medical redshirt for the 2019 season at USC where he injured his knee. That makes him a redshirt junior this year, meaning that he would have one more year of eligibility if he wanted to use it, but I don’t see that happening.

I see JT Daniels finally realizing the potential he showed as a highly touted five-star recruit and having a huge season both individually and for his team at Georgia. I think the Bulldogs make the SEC Championship Game and Daniels gets invited to New York as a Heisman finalist, then declares for the 2022 NFL Draft. From there I believe he’ll get selected in the early to mid-second round.
