Quarterback. 2. 50. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Nevada. Carson Strong. player

The Detroit Lions made headlines early in the offseason, trading Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for Jared Goff. That package in return included a first round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, which will come up later.

This past offseason and draft looked like building a house for the Lions. They went heavy on building a strong foundation in the trenches. Selecting Penei Sewell in the first round was important, as this line with Sewell, Taylor Decker, Logan Stenberg, Frank Ragnow, and Jonah Jackson should be one of the better (super) young groups in the league. Adding Levi Onwuzurike and Alim McNeill to the defensive line only makes that unit better as well.

Now comes the time to add a quarterback, and while a certain UNC quarterback has been consensus in mocks for a while, this time Nevada’s Carson Strong is the pick.

Strong has the potential to be the big riser in this draft class, and it starts with the arm strength. Strong has a hose and consistently pushes the ball down the field with very good accuracy. He’s great at the mental game pre-snap, and is good maneuvering around the pocket. Strong needs to avoid turnover-worthy plays again this season and work on anticipation, but he’s firmly in the QB2 conversation already.
