The Washington Football Team surprised many in 2020, winning the NFC East and pushing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers perhaps better than anyone in the playoffs. The defense is legit, and they just extended Jonathan Allen in a deal that keeps a young, elite line together. Allen, along with Chase Young and Montez Sweat, will terrorize opposing quarterbacks for years to come.
The offense gets a boost by adding Ryan Fitzpatrick at quarterback, who will only help out Terry McLaurin and Logan Thomas. Deep threat Dyami Brown joins the fold, along with the speedy Curtis Samuel. It’s no wonder this group is favored to repeat in 2021.
As the focus shifts to the long term, the quarterback position needs to be addressed at some point. They need a young guy to keep the winning window open. It seems unlikely that Taylor Heinicke is the guy.
Liberty quarterback Malik Willis is the pick in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft. Willis has been pretty polarizing in the summer scouting circles. He has incredible arm strength and arm talent, and is extremely dynamic as a runner. Willis needs to work on making more plays in rhythm and in structure this fall, but the upside is tremendous and he could easily end up here by the 2022 NFL Draft and elevate Washington.
