Welcome back football fans and happy August! There will be football from this month until February, so fans rejoice! We have made it! The NFL preseason will kick off with the Hall of Fame Game this week, and college football starts up at the end of the month. That means a fresh wave of draft prospects take the field, so why not kick off this great month with a 2022 NFL Mock Draft?

The 2022 NFL Draft will look a bit different from the past two drafts, where top talent at the quarterback position, wide receiver, and offensive tackle dominated the headlines. This time, quarterback has some serious questions, as the class as a whole doesn’t have solidified top talents. Wide receiver likely won’t be as elite, and tackle doesn’t look as deep right now. Defense looks like the headliner this time, and at every level too.

Now, these aren’t set in stone, just like the predictions in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft. But, the 2022 NFL Draft season is already beginning (especially here at NFL Mocks with summer scouting) so let’s dive into this fresh mock in the month of August!

Note: This mock draft used the NFL Mock Draft Database simulator and the Tankathon draft order.

2022 NFL Mock Draft: First round projections

10. Quarterback. Spencer Rattler. Oklahoma. 1. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

The Houston Texans are the favorites to find themselves at the number one pick next spring for the 2022 NFL Draft. While they haven’t moved DeShaun Watson just yet, and Davis Mills could get an opportunity to start in 2021, the best course for this franchise is a hard reset by taking a quarterback at number one overall.

Oklahoma’s Spencer Rattler is the consensus top quarterback right now and it doesn’t seem close as the summer scouting continues. The rest of the class has many more questions than Rattler does at this point.

This isn’t to say that Rattler is perfect by any stretch, but right now, Rattler has excellent arm talent, from good arm strength to excellent touch to the intermediate and deep areas of the field. He can maneuver around the pocket and create when things break down.

He needs to clean up his footwork and some decision making issues, but another year of starting should get him on track to being the top overall selection.
