Houston Texans 3-round 2022 mock draft: Starting the rebuild
Round 3: Obinna Eze, OT ,TCU
Another big foundation to build around for the Houston Texans, after quarterback and corner, is offensive tackle. After Tunsil, there isn’t much to be excited about. Former first round pick Tytus Howard still has time to show he can be around long-term in 2021, but right now, upgrading that position is fundamental to the rebuild.
While the tackle class doesn’t look as excellent as the past two drafts, there will still be diamonds in the rough for the later rounds. Teams are taking more chances on the better athletes early, and the Texans do so here with the selection of Obinna Eze.
Eze, listed at 6’8″ and 315 pounds, started his career out at Memphis, and recently transferred to TCU for this upcoming season. He has great size and a great frame for the tackle position, and displays great athleticism for that size. His pass sets look very smooth, and he mirrors rushers very well with his foot quickness and agility. Eze needs to work on his initial strike and letting defenders get into his frame, but a year of development and competition in the Big 12 will help out his game.
The Houston Texans would do well with a rebuild at the key positions, and this upcoming draft will be important to secure the future of the franchise.
