The Houston Texans will likely find themselves at or near the top of the 2022 NFL Draft, and likely will start a rebuild.

A rough year likely lies ahead for the Houston Texans, as they are the favorite to have the worst record in the league and the top pick in the 2022 NFL draft. The uncertainty surrounding DeShaun Watson, combined with the questionable decision making by the previous regime, put the Texans into a bad spot and a team full of one-year signees. A new general manager and head coach inheriting this will be taking on a big challenge.

The good news is that the Texans are staying active acquiring players and future draft capital. They moved a fifth round selection to Chicago for Anthony Miller, who can do plenty of work in the slot. Houston also shipped off Randall Cobb to the Packers for a sixth round pick.

All isn’t lost with this team, though. They have a franchise cornerstone in Laremy Tunsil at left tackle (provided that he doesn’t get traded), plus a good stable of linebackers. Justin Reid has played very well at safety for the team as well.

The 2021 draft landed the Texans a couple potential starters for the future. Nico Collins has plenty of potential to be an “X” receiver, and Brevin Jordan can become a very good receiving tight end in time. Of course, adding those two to Brandin Cooks is huge for whoever ends up under center this year.

It’ll likely be a rough season, so looking for hope in the 2022 draft will be important for the Houston Texans. Let’s look at an early 2022 mock draft for the Texans and how they can start a full scale rebuild.
