5 trade destinations for Miami Dolphins corner Xavien Howard
Five possible trade destinations for Miami Dolphins corner Xavien Howard include some contenders.
Miami Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard has officially requested a trade. The formal announcement came after a couple weeks of speculation that the Dolphins would likely have to move Howard, based on issues with his contract. Howard has stated that he feels he’s outperformed what he has on his current deal and wanted to restructure. Miami hasn’t budged, and here we are.
The crazy thing is Howard isn’t even the top paid corner on the team, with Byron Jones’ deal soaring above Howard’s by a million and a half in average annual value.
Despite the takes from many media and analysts that Howard has had some struggles in coverage, which are fair, it’s hard to argue with the production from Howard in 2020. He led the league in 2020 with a whopping 10 interceptions and 20 passes defensed, both career highs. His 22 interceptions and 55 PDs in five seasons are excellent numbers.
While it would be great for the Dolphins to retain that production, it seems like the writing is on the wall. Howard wants out, and Miami has a pretty deep room at defensive back. In addition to Jones, Noah Igbinoghene was a first round pick in 2020 and is trending towards a starting spot. Nik Needham has been effective in the slot. There’s a good chance rookie Jevon Holland gets slot reps as well.
Some team is going to get a stud on the perimeter to beef up their secondary. Let’s look at five possible destinations for Xavien Howard.
