NFL trade rumors: Non-Aaron Rodgers QB trades that can still happen
2. Gardner Minshew, Jacksonville Jaguars
Among the NFL trade rumors at the quarterback position, it’s surprising that Gardner Minshew has not gotten a bit more buzz.
The new coaching staff in Jacksonville brought in CJ Beathard as a backup option. They obviously used the first overall pick on Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence.
With two years remaining on his rookie contract, Minshew’s value might never be higher if the Jaguars are willing to trade him away to the highest bidder.
In 23 games (20 starts), Minshew completed almost 63 percent of his passes with 5,530 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Not that he proved himself to be a franchise quarterback in that time, but it’s not often you see that kind of production from a sixth-round pick in his first two NFL seasons.
There’s something there with Minshew worth exploring. At worst, he seems like he could be a second-coming of a Ryan Fitzpatrick type of player or something like that.
Minshew also isn’t taking his demotion without a fight.
We’ll have to see what Minshew can do in preseason action and obviously, there’s already plenty of film on him out there. If he can have a strong preseason, he could very well get traded to a team for a third-round pick or maybe even better than that.
