2022 NFL Draft: 3 teams destined to compete for the No. 1 overall pick

Houston Texans
The Houston Texans are sure to look a lot different in the upcoming season. They’ve already been without DeAndre Hopkins for a year, but now J.J. Watt and Will Fuller are gone as well. Throw on the fact that Deshaun Watson is most likely not playing this year, at least not in Houston, and the Texans might be the favorite to land the No. 1 overall selection of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Even before Watson’s off-the-field issues put his season in question the Texans didn’t look like a team that was going to be able to compete against the Tennessee Titans and Indianapolis Colts within the division, maybe not even the Jacksonville Jaguars. If Tyrod Taylor or even Davis Mills is the starting quarterback, that only makes the situation worse.
The team’s only proven playmakers on offense are David Johnson and Brandin Cooks, two players who have had their fair share of injuries over the course of their careers. Throw in an offensive line that could struggle in the interior and Houston’s offense is simply a mess.
As for the defense, it’s a similar story. The few well-known names have struggled to stay healthy in the past which is sure to lead to an even weaker defense than assumed.
If Watson plays, it would give Houston a fighting chance, but that’s a big if. If he doesn’t, which is the more likely scenario, the Texans should be the favorite to make the first pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.
