3 teams destined to compete for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft
Teams around the National Football League have officially reported for training camp and while that normally brings excitement, there are a few teams who are just preparing to endure a difficult season with the only excitement being about the 2022 NFL Draft. Even though the season hasn’t started yet, there are fans that know what the 2021 season holds.
A year ago, the teams that had this mindset, at least according to the media, were the Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Jets, and Carolina Panthers. Those three were all but guaranteed to be picking in the top 10 of the draft, and that’s the way the season played out. There were other teams that had low expectations, but in terms of things to be excited about, there wasn’t much for those fan bases.
For example, the Cincinnati Bengals weren’t expected to blow anyone away, but they at least had Joe Burrow to rally around. The Jaguars, Jets, and Panthers didn’t even have an exciting rookie and as the season progressed the situations only got worse with injuries and shortcomings.
This season there’s a trio of teams that will be in a similar boat. Luckily, some of these three have at least one player that’s intriguing or a storyline to follow, but it won’t save them for the hard road ahead that will be the 2021 season. In the end, they are destined to be picking near the top of the 2022 NFL Draft.
These three teams will at least be competing for something in 2021, but it isn’t what fans want to see. They will be competing for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. There’s the chance that they could surprise, as the Panthers did last year, but entering the season the expectations are low for these franchises as they try and clinch the top pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.
