The best picks of the 2018 NFL Draft in every round
Sixth Round
195. Los Angeles Rams (via Buffalo Bills): Sebastian Joseph-Day, DT, Rutgers
The best player to come out of the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft is one who the common football fan may not know. He doesn’t fill the stat sheet and plays in the trenches. He also is overshadowed by the star power around him including his running mate Aaron Donald. But Sebastian Joseph-Day of the Los Angeles Rams has been a very important piece to the Los Angeles Rams defense.
After not playing a single game his rookie season, Joseph-Day was tasked with filling the void left by Ndamukong Suh and lining up at nose tackle for the Los Angeles Rams next to future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald. During the 2019 season, he beat out fourth-round pick rookie Greg Gaines for the job. Joseph-Day has started all but one game for the Rams over the last two seasons. During his first season as a starter, Joseph-Day had 44 combined tackles (25 solo tackles) and two sacks. This past season he had 55 combined tackles (35 solo tackles), one sack, and a forced fumble.
That is solid production from a position that does not typically put up high-end numbers on the stat sheet. Joseph-Day’s job is to be an outstanding defender against the run and help open up pass rush lanes for Aaron Donald and Leonard Floyd. PFF recognized Joseph-Day as one of the league’s best players this past season giving him an 80.6 grade on the year.
Now that Los Angeles has traded Michael Brockers in the offseason, Joseph-Day is expected to step into a larger role on this defense and has a great chance of getting on the field over former second-round pick A’Shawn Robinson during nickel formations that feature four defensive linemen up front.
