2022 NFL mock draft: Texans pass on QB in QB-heavy predictions
2022 NFL mock draft: 19th pick
Anytime you have a first-round quarterback, you’ve got to look at the guys he was throwing to.
When you watch Justin Fields play, as impressive as he is, it’s impossible not to notice wide receivers Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson.
Olave is certainly the more heavily hyped player at this point, and deservedly so. But Wilson is an outstanding prospect in his own right and would give the New Orleans Saints a much-needed secondary option opposite Michael Thomas.
Right now, who is playing receiver for the Saints besides Thomas? Tre’Quan Smith is a free agent after this season, and the depth is rather thin.
The Saints already don’t have a ton of weapons for Jameis Winston to get the ball to, but that wide receiver unit may need to be revamped a bit in 2022.
Garrett Wilson has outstanding quickness and leaping ability, and despite being barely 6-foot-1, he’s often the winner at the catch point in 50-50 situations.
It wasn’t like Justin Fields was out there heaving up Hail Mary’s all the time, by any stretch, but Wilson and Olave made some outstanding plays on the ball downfield with their combination of concentration and body control.
