It’s a new era for the New York Jets. The Jets have a new head coach in former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh and along with him, a new offensive coordinator (Mike LaFleur) and a rookie quarterback. That new quarterback is Zach Wilson, the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Wilson worked his way to being the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft while throwing primarily to Dax Milne this past season. Although the New York Jets wide receiver group was a hair short of pathetic in 2020, he’s getting some pretty massive upgrades moving to NYC.

One of those weapons is former Ole Miss wide receiver Elijah Moore, a second-round pick in 2021 who has been one of the more explosive playmakers in college football over the past couple of seasons.

Moore wasn’t the only former Rebel to join Zach Wilson and the Jets this offseason, either. The Jets landed one of the top undrafted free agents in the league when they signed former Ole Miss tight end Kenny Yeboah.

Kenny Yeboah a steal for the New York Jets?

Yeboah played his first four college seasons at Temple where he blossomed in year four. He caught five touchdown passes in his redshirt junior 2019 season, and parlayed that into a grad transfer offer from Ole Miss.

The Ole Miss offense really took flight this past season and Yeboah went along for the ride.

He caught 27 passes, a season-high for him, as well as six touchdowns with a huge average of 19.4 yards per reception.

Yeboah showed impressive explosiveness after the catch in the Ole Miss offense and despite being a bit rough around the edges as a route runner and struggling with drops, he’s a playmaker who can win contested-catch situations.

As hard as it’s going to be for Yeboah to just come into the Jets’ offseason program and win a roster spot, he’s in a favorable situation. Chris Herndon, Ryan Griffin, Tyler Kroft, Trevon Wesco, and Daniel Brown are the other tight ends on the Jets’ roster right now.

The only other NFL team with less going on at tight end may be the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Yeboah is a high-upside addition for the Jets and someone who gets to come into a pretty favorable position battle to prove he’s worthy of sticking around and at least being a wild card option.

Yeboah showed some impressive effort for an undersized player at tight end as a blocker, and with his obvious upside in the passing game, the New York Jets may have a hidden gem on their hands.
