2022 NFL Draft notebook: Ohio State’s dynamic duo and more
By John Blair
- Dallas Cowboys cornerback Nahshon Wright is looking like he might be worth the third-round pick Dallas spent on him after all. He has impressed so far with his ability to make plays on the ball, his overall competitiveness and his ability to pick up the team’s defense. While head coach Mike McCarthy has mentioned there are some technique things Wright needs to clean up he has the size and overall athletic ability to be a good developmental corner in Dan Quinn’s defense.
- An undrafted free agent who has looked good so far is Miami Dolphins defensive back Trill Williams. Williams’s highlight of camp is when he was able to pick off Tua Tagovailoa, and overall he has looked good enough to be named a surprise player you should know about by ESPN. Coming out of college Williams was graded as a fifth-round pick by NFL Mocks but injury concerns caused him to go undrafted. However, if he continues to play like he has so far there is a good chance he will make an NFL team this fall.
- Another player that was drafted later than the grade he received and is standing out is Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Tommy Togiai. Togiai who came out of Ohio State with a third-round grade and was rated as the sixth-best defensive tackle but fell to the end of the fourth round. He has impressed people with his combination of his power and speed and will likely see significant playing time next season.
- Arizona Cardinals first-round pick Zaven Collins was arrested last weekend for excessive speed and reckless driving. He was picked up last Sunday for going 76 mph in a 35 mph zone. While this is not the type of impression you want to make on your new team, it is very unlikely this will cause Collins to miss any time this coming season.
