Patrick Mahomes QB/ Kansas City Chiefs ADP: 3.02

Not knocking the talent, but please, please do not take a QB in the 3rd round. Especially at the beginning of the round!

That is a quick way to lose your league and be the guy who passed on Keenan Allen, Miles Sanders, and potentially Justin Jefferson (3.01). There are plenty of guys who can be comparable to Mahomes in the points department, see the above list for guys who will be more than serviceable to you.

Just look at Russell Wilson, Tom Brady, or Matt Stafford if you want a QB that is going to put up high-end QB1 stats for a cheaper price. I am one of those guys that waits until the later rounds for QB’s usually, save for the year I drafted Lamar Jackson in the 8th round and loved every moment of it.

Patrick Mahomes is not going to give you much on the ground, so you are completely reliant on the belief that the Super Bowl won’t ever happen again and he is going to pump out 30+ point games weekly.

That is the only way to justify a QB that early. I have flashbacks to when Cam Newton was going in the 3rd round after his MVP campaign, and all that did was lead to broken hearts and ruined lineups.  Don’t do it.  Take a skill position and thank me later.
