The Washington Football Team is on the cusp of being a true contender. After a 2020 season that proved a strong defense can still carry a team, Washington made a couple big moves in free agency. The quarterback position is still an issue long-term, but bringing in Ryan Fitzpatrick solves that for a season or two. Adding Curtis Samuel brought a different element to the passing game. He has the speed to threaten vertically and also can be effective in the quick game on schemed touches.

Entering the draft, the Washington Football Team had a few clear needs, but also had the flexibility to find value. This was thanks to what the team has done in previous drafts. The defensive line is full of talent and the secondary is going to get a bump with the addition of William Jackson III and Kamren Curl getting more reps. The weapons in the offense look great as well.

With a great roster in place, the Washington Football Team only got better in the 2021 NFL Draft.

How did the 2021 NFL Draft start? In a deep linebacker class, the Football Team got their guy in the first round, selecting Jamin Davis, who provides plenty of upside with his length, range, and instincts. It may take some time for him to come into his own in the NFL, but this is a team with a big contention window.

Then, Washington ended up selecting 100th percentile athlete at tackle who fell into their laps in the second round. Samuel Cosmi has absurd athletic traits, and finishing ability to match. Washington needed some help at tackle, despite the good play of Cornelius Lucas. Charles Leno will likely get the start opposite Lucas to start out 2021, but Cosmi has the long term potential.

Then, the Washington Football Team landed two players to help out the passing game on both sides. Benjamin St-Juste has the length and patience to be a press-man corner in the future. Dyami Brown gives them a very good deep threat, and can make some big plays in his rookie season with Fitzpatrick at the helm.

Elsewhere in their draft, William Bradley-King can find a spot on the roster because of his motor and hand usage. Darrick Forrest brings some versatility to the secondary, and he has the body type to be an enforcer.

Now, not everyone will become a quality starter from this 2021 class, but if trends continue, the Washington Football Team will have landed a couple quality starters from the first two days and a few quality contributors as well. Their roster building continues to be excellent, and their latest draft can really make them a threat in a short time.
