Draft picks? Who needs ’em? The Los Angeles Rams have been the NFL’s poster-child for drafting and developing well over the last five years without actually having any very high draft picks. For the most part, the Rams have waited until the mid-late portion of day two to make their selections thanks to trades, many for proven and established players.

Because it’s become their “thing”, the Los Angeles Rams should be the team that makes a trade for New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore, who has been the subject of trade rumors dating back to last year’s in-season deadline.

There might be some who will chime in and wonder what exactly the Rams have to offer in a trade after their blockbuster deal for Matthew Stafford earlier in the 2021 offseason, but the draft pick cupboard is not bare for Les Snead.

Not as bare as his secondary after it was slightly depleted in the 2021 offseason.

Snead has his second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft as well as multiple third-round picks to play around with, and he’s got all but his first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft as well.

The Los Angeles Rams are in a championship window. The Matthew Stafford was as potent of a signal-fire as any you will ever see — they want to win right now and understandably so. The core that has been built in Los Angeles from 2016 on has become one of the top roster cores in the NFL.

This group is ready to contend but the secondary could use some upgrades, no question.

John Johnson and Troy Hill led the Rams’ secondary in snaps played in 2020, and both players left Los Angeles for the Cleveland Browns in the 2021 offseason.

Darious Williams is an underrated player with six interceptions over the last two seasons, and the Rams got themselves a gem on day three of the draft in Robert Rochell, but again — their current CB2 is Williams.

Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris gets to work with one of the best corners in the game right now in Jalen Ramsey, who may be the best corner in the game right now.

Ramsey is doing his best to recruit Gilmore on Twitter…

Adding Gilmore to the mix would just be another push for this Rams team toward a title in 2021.
