Carolina Panthers: Can Jeremy Chinn be an All-Pro in year two?

Coming out of Southern Illinois, Carolina Panthers versatile safety Jeremy Chinn was an unknown coming into his first year in the league. Having low expectations in the eyes of many Chinn really proved himself at the next level and is starting to turn some heads. Chinn is a versatile player on the Panthers’ defense where he can play some safety and some inside backer as well. Going into year two many believe he will have an even bigger role which could lead to even more praise and recognition in year two.

Where Jeremy Chinn lacked in experience out of college, he makes up for in size standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 215 pounds. Chinn was all over the field last year, racking up 117 tackles, forced two fumbles while recovering both for touchdowns, and having a single interception this season. Chinn played a lot as a box safety being used in run support but showed great cover skills when asked upon. With the release of Tre Boston, Chinn will have much more pass coverage duties in the 2021 season.

Due to him shining in his rookie season it is clear to many that Chinn will be a focal point in the Carolina Panthers‘ defense this season. Chinn has so much versatility in his game making him valuable as a cover safety, play in the box in needed run support, and maybe slide his way into nickel in pass coverage.

Safety is becoming a position in the league where they can line up in multiple positions as seen with guys like Derwin James and Jessie Bates. Chinn could be the next guy to help revolutionize the position and become a scary threat for opposing offensive coordinators.

Jeremy Chinn and Antonie Windfield Jr. were the two rookie safeties selected for this year’s All-Rookie team. Chinn was a no-brainer to make this team due to his production and even had some buzz around being Rookie Defensive Player of the Year.

With Chinn’s new role, versatile skill set, and early production there is a chance we see Jeremy Chinn making a Pro-Bowl or even an All-Pro team sooner than later. After making the jump from a small school to the pros, Jeremy Chinn still has a chip on his shoulder which could make him become one of the best safeties in the NFL.
