2022 NFL mock draft: Spencer Rattler leads fascinating QB class
2022 NFL mock draft: 32nd pick
Even considering the Kansas City Chiefs are one of the best teams in the NFL and one of the most impressive rosters overall, I’d be willing to bet that most casual fans couldn’t name their entire starting secondary, or maybe even anyone beyond Tyrann Mathieu.
The Chiefs’ secondary is certainly not just a band of misfits. They have some real talent in addition to Mathieu with the likes of former second-round safety Juan Thornhill as well as a stud from the class of 2020 in L’Jarius Sneed, who became a foundation piece for the secondary after picking off three passes in just nine games last season, also adding two sacks and seven pass breakups.
The Chiefs also traded for former first-round pick Mike Hughes with the Vikings, and Hughes will have a shot to rehabilitate his career after struggling in Minnesota with injuries the past three seasons.
All of this to say, the Chiefs would probably jump at the opportunity to continue upgrading their defense with young talent like Alabama’s Josh Jobe, provided he doesn’t play himself way out of this slot over the course of the 2021 season.
That’s part of the beauty of these way-too-early mock draft scenarios — guys will pretty consistently play their way out of some of the slots we’re predicting, but for the time being, a player like Jobe if available to the Chiefs could make a lot of sense.
At 6-foot-1, 192 pounds, Jobe has tremendous size for the position and he was extremely productive for the Crimson Tide last season, racking up 55 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, two forced fumbles, and 11 passes broken up.
