Green Bay Packers 2021 NFL Draft grades: Needs addressed very well
The defensive line is an area that many believed the Green Bay Packers would address in the 2021 NFL Draft. However, the defensive tackle class was one of the weaker positions in the class. The Packers front office waited until day three to address it, selecting Florida’s Tedarrell “TJ” Slaton in the fifth.
In his four seasons with the Gators, Slaton amassed 99 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks. He’s stout at the point of attack and will be a great addition defending the run. Slaton flashes when attacking gaps and getting after the quarterback, but he needs to develop more consistency to make an early impact. He’s a solid depth piece and will fit into the rotation.
Grade: C+
Double-dipping at the corner position was necessary for the Green Bay Packers, especially with the lack of effective starter opposite Jaire Alexander and the struggles they’ve had at the nickel position.
Shemar Jean-Charles was a perfect selection on day three to supplant their selection of Stokes. Jean-Charles always finds himself around the ball, especially at the catch point, where he accrued 16 pass breakups and an interception in his senior season. There’s a chance Jean-Charles becomes the long-term nickel for this defense, and he’s got the confidence to find a role on this defense.
