Dallas Cowboys: Top 7 moves in the 2021 offseason
6. Signing DB Damontae Kazee
The Dallas Cowboys brought in former Atlanta Falcon Keanu Neal but they also brought in Damontae Kazee, who has frankly been quite underrated throughout this career in the NFL so far.
Kazee was a fifth-round pick in 2017 who became a full-time starter by 2018 and picked off 10 passes between the 2018-19 seasons.
Kazee has the physicality of a safety and the ball skills of a top-flight cornerback. If Dan Quinn plans on using primarily Cover 3, Kazee will be an ideal free safety for him.
If he plans on adapting some of the split-high looks we’ve seen from other coordinators around the league, Kazee should be able to make even more plays on the ball.
Coming off of a season in which he played just four games, Kazee was a relative bargain and low-profile free agency acquisition. Given the fact that he had 10 interceptions over the course of 32 games from 2018-19, there is no doubt that this player is an upgrade to the back end of Dallas’ secondary.
Just like with Keanu Neal, having Kazee as a key communicator all throughout the offseason to get players in place defensively will be massive. He brings a veteran presence to a young defense and gives this team a guy who can really be the “eye in the sky” for everyone else at free safety.
