1. Re-signing QB Dak Prescott

Even after suffering a scary season-ending injury Dak Prescott was able to parlay his unlikely rise as a former day three draft pick into the second-largest contract in NFL history.

Prescott signed with the Dallas Cowboys for four years, $160 million. This comes just on the heels of Prescott earning just shy of $31.5 million in fully guaranteed money on the 2020 franchise tag, bringing his five-year total (including the 2020 tag) to $191.4 million with close to $160 million in guarantees.

Although Prescott has a ton of money in the bank, the Dallas Cowboys have to see an immediate return on that investment.

There is no question that Prescott outplayed his rookie contract but the Cowboys paid a premium dollar and they should expect nothing less than Prescott raising all boats around him and making the Cowboys Super Bowl contenders for the life of that new contract.

He’s going to need help from the defense, no doubt, but the offensive weaponry in Dallas is among the best in the league right now and Prescott has no shortage of guys he can get the ball to.

Statistically speaking, we know Prescott is going to do well. Fantasy football players probably don’t have to worry about Prescott as QB1. But ultimately, no one in Dallas Cowboys fandom is going to care about Prescott’s contract or stats without wins attached.

Still, getting Prescott back in the fold — no matter what the cost — was the most critical move to the Dallas Cowboys’ offseason in 2021.
