New York Jets should immediately unleash Elijah Moore
Make no mistake about it, the New York Jets are a team on the rise. Under the direction of new head coach Robert Saleh, this team should be able to turn their fortunes around quickly. Their ability to do so will depend heavily on the development of rookie quarterback Zach Wilson but the New York Jets have done a great job of putting their young quarterback in an immediate position to succeed.
In the 2021 NFL Draft, the Jets made making life easy on Wilson a priority. After selecting Wilson at No. 2 overall, the Jets aggressively moved up the board to snag Alijah Vera-Tucker at No. 14 overall. Placing Vera-Tucker at left guard next to left tackle Mekhi Becton gives the Jets an exciting young duo up front to build their offensive line around.
After snagging Wilson and Vera-Tucker in the first round, the Jets were once again able to improve their offensive attack early on Day 2, selecting wide receiver Elijah Moore with the 34th overall pick. Moore was considered by most to be a fringe first-round wide reciever prospect. He is a dynamic playmaker out of the slot who undoubtedly has exciting upside at the next level and should fit the New York Jets extremely well.
Moore rounds out a strong wide receiver room
Adding Moore to the mix rounds out the Jets’ wide receiver situation nicely. After adding Corey Davis in free agency earlier this offseason to pair with Denzel Mims, New York was set with a couple of talented starting outside receivers. Jamison Crowder is a rock-solid option out of the slot but Moore is a much more explosive playmaker who raises the ceiling of this offensive attack.
Moore took his game to the next level in the Lane Kiffin offense at Ole Miss this past season, hauling in 86 receptions for 1,193 yards and eight touchdowns in only eight games. He was a dynamic playmaker out the slot for Ole Miss, showing tremendous playmaking ability all over the field.

Moore gets a quick release off of the line of scrimmage and shows the ability to separate from man coverage immediately. He is a sharp route runner who creates space well in the short passing game and also shows tremendous playmaking ability after the catch. Moore also shows explosive down-field playmaking ability, separating from the defense as a deep receiver and tracking the ball in the air extremely well. Simply put, he is a gifted playmaker at all levels of the field.
While the New York Jets are starting to put together a strong group of weapons, Moore has a chance to be special and should be featured in their passing attack. He is not only a good fit for their scheme, but his strengths as a player fit well with Wilson’s strengths at the quarterback position.
Wilson primarily shined in the RPO game in college, showing the ability to make great RPO decisions and quickly get the ball to his playmakers in space at the right time. This will pair well with Moore’s ability to immediately separate in the quick game and create after the catch.
Wilson is also a dynamic playmaker who improvises well and does a great job of keeping his eyes down the field. Wilson keeps plays alive extremely well which should allow for major big-play opportunities for Moore in the passing game.
Elijah Moore is not only an extremely gifted player at the wide receiver position but he is also a fantastic fit for the New York Jets going forward. Make no mistake about it, this team should immediately make Moore their starting slot receiver and feature him heavily in their passing game. Allowing him to grow with Wilson and build that rapport quickly is a recipe for success for this team.
