NFL Draft 2020: Complete first-round re-draft after rookie year
Actual 2020 NFL Draft Pick: Andrew Thomas, OT
Tristan Wirfs quickly established himself as one of the best offensive tackles in the NFL as a rookie last season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was a major reason for their Super Bowl run, consistently dominating the competition from his right tackle position. The Andrew Thomas pick did not work out particularly well for the New York Giants. Wirfs is clearly the better player and would undoubtedly be the better selection in this re-draft.
Actual 2020 NFL Draft Pick: Tua Tagovailoa, QB
The Miami Dolphins had a tough decision to make with the fifth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Looking back, Justin Herbert would have been the better pick, but let’s not give up on Tua Tagovailoa. Tua still has plenty of upside, but let’s be honest, he was not great last season. In this re-draft scenario, Joe Burrow stands out as the obvious choice for the Dolphins.
Actual 2020 NFL Draft Pick: Justin Herbert, QB
Fans of the Los Angeles Chargers can sit back and laugh at this re-draft idea. They have Justin Herbert in the fold and nothing else matters. However, Herbert is well off of the board in this re-draft. Tua Tagovailoa is an option but the remaining offensive tackle talent is impossible to ignore.
Mekhi Becton was fantastic at left tackle for the New York Jets last season, using his incredible combination of size, power and quickness to consistently win up front. He is undoubtedly one of the premier young left tackles in the entire NFL and would be worthy of this selection.
Actual 2020 NFL Draft Pick: Derrick Brown, IDL
Jedrick Wills Jr. shined at left tackle for the Cleveland Browns this past season and would undoubtedly be in consideration this early in a re-draft scenario. The Carolina Panthers could secure a long-term position of need by snagging Wills. Derrick Brown was a solid pick, but it’s hard to see the Panthers going in that direction again in this re-draft scenario.
Actual 2020 NFL Draft Pick: Isaiah Simmons, LB
The Arizona Cardinals did not do Isaiah Simmons any favors during his rookie season. This team did not use their impact defensive weapon properly and would be wise to use him in a more versatile role going forward, just like the Panthers did with Jeremy Chinn last season.
Chinn was all over the field for Carolina during the 2020 season, making plays from linebacker, box safety, deep safety and even slot cornerback. He is an impact defender who shined throughout his rookie season and could bring the same kind of impact playmaking ability to the Arizona defensive attack.
