2 (35): Javonte Williams, RB, North Carolina

After going defense with his top selection, George Paton fixed his eyes on adding another playmaker and offensive weapon to the already loaded Denver Broncos skill position arsenal.

Javonte Williams exploded onto the scene this past year with 1,445 yards from scrimmage in 11 games along with 22 total touchdowns.

He was a force for the Tar Heels in terms of breaking tackles and making defenders miss in the open field, averaging a whopping 7.3 yards per carry on 157 carries overall.

Why would the Denver Broncos trade up to get Javonte Williams? They let Phillip Lindsay walk in free agency, much to the chagrin of the fan base. They also have Melvin Gordon back in 2021, but he’s a free agent after the season.

With Melvin Gordon as the lead veteran back, Williams will be able to ease into his role at his pace.

Although many dislike the positional value of a running back this high in the NFL Draft, there’s no denying Williams’ talent and value to an offense on all three downs.

His tackle-breaking ability is reminiscent of Nick Chubb of the Cleveland Browns, and he could be a star for the Broncos, bringing balance to their offense.
