Deshaun Watson

This one is just as confusing to follow as the Aaron Rodgers situation. While there isn’t as much unrest from Deshaun Watson, his off-the-field issues are raising red flags from the Houston Texans. If that was being questioned before the 2021 NFL Draft, then the Texans using their first pick on a quarterback may have provided clarification. Now, that pick wasn’t until the third round, but the fact remains.

Drafting Davis Mills gives Houston three quarterbacks outside of Watson with Tyrod Taylor and Ryan Finley both joining through free agency. That much capital invested into the quarterback room shows that the Texans might not know what will happen with their quarterback.

At this point, Watson’s trade value is much lower than it was a few months ago, but that doesn’t mean a move couldn’t still be coming. The Texans seem to be going through a culture shift, or at least attempting one, and moving Watson could be one of the final steps in wiping the slate clean.

I don’t know if there’s a team that would take a flyer on Watson at this point, but the Texans would be wise to listen to calls. Watson doesn’t want to play there and his off-the-field concerns could trickle into the locker room as a distraction.
