Gardner Minshew

It was only a year ago that we were in the midst of Minshew Mania and the frenzy that followed Gardner Minshew as the potential quarterback of the future in Jacksonville. Fast forward and the Jaguars ended up with the top pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and Trevor Lawrence. While Minshew could easily stay as the backup in Jacksonville, the addition of C.J. Beathard opens the door for a move.

Minshew’s ceiling is most likely a Ryan Fitzpatrick or Case Keenum type player, a journeyman that can start if needed, but won’t be “the guy.” With that being said, that’s a role that is very important in today’s NFL and one that could draw interest around the league. Teams with on-the-fence starters or questions surrounding the quarterback position’s depth could call up Jacksonville for a trade.

Teams that come to mind are along the lines of the Detroit Lions or Tennessee Titans, two teams that have starters in place, but an upgrade for the backup could go a long way. Tim Boyle and Logan Woodside are decent backups, but Minshew would be an upgrade should they need to play the backup for whatever reason, whether that be struggles from the starter or the unfortunate result of an injury.
