Nick Foles

This offseason has to have been a difficult one for Nick Foles, who’s still just a handful of years removed from a Super Bowl MVP. First, the Chicago Bears sign Andy Dalton and announce him as the QB1 on Twitter. Then, they trade up to draft Justin Fields making Foles the assumed third-string quarterback in Chicago.

After trading up for Fields, it’s hard to imagine that he will be left holding a clipboard while Dalton starts and Foles backs up deep into the season. Could it happen in the first few weeks? Sure. But eventually, people will want to see the guy that has been labeled the quarterback of the future.

For Foles, that could make him the odd man out at some point this season. While I previously mentioned the Washington Football Team as a quarterback-needy team, they already have a bridge quarterback in Ryan Fitzpatrick. Where Foles could end up is with a team in need of a veteran backup to help along a young starter. The team that best fits that description? The New York Jets.

After taking Zach Wilson second overall, the Jets quarterback room is now Wilson, James Morgan and Mike White who have taken a combined zero snaps in an NFL regular-season game. Adding a veteran like Foles as a safety net makes a lot of sense for a team in that position.
