Houston Texans: The best and worst of the 2021 NFL Draft
The Best: Brevin Jordan, TE (5th round)
The Houston Texans managed to get a major bargain despite only having five selections in this draft class, the majority of which were on day three of the draft.
Even without a fourth-round pick, the Texans managed to snatch up arguably one of the top five tight ends in this class, Miami’s Brevin Jordan.
Jordan Akins led Houston’s tight end group with 49 targets last season, and he is returning for 2021. That should leave Jordan as potentially the team’s TE2 for the 2021 season should he win the job in training camp.
Despite missing three games due to injury this past season at Miami, Jordan led the team with seven touchdown receptions and averaged over 15 yards per catch. He didn’t have the type of pro day many hoped he would running in the low 4.6 range, but his athleticism shows up on tape and he’s got the look of a solid weapon at the tight end position for years to come.
Especially when you consider that Jordan was acquired for the low, low price of the 147th overall pick, this selection is just great work by general manager Nick Caserio.
New Texans head coach David Culley comes from the Baltimore Ravens where the tight ends had heavy involvement in the passing game. Culley was Baltimore’s passing game coordinator, so Jordan stands a good chance to have as much impact as really any day three pick in this class as a rookie with the Texans’ depth chart fluidity.
