New Orleans Saints, Additional Offensive Weapons
Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas are two of the best playmakers in the National Football League, but with a questionable quarterback room, it was a bit surprising to see the New Orleans Saints wait until the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft to add a pass catcher.
Whether it be Taysom Hill, Jameis Winston or someone else under center, the Saints will need to help them out by adding another target. If Hill gets the nod, it can be assumed that New Orleans will be a run-first offense with Kamara and Latavius Murray. If it’s Winston, well he struggled to throw to the right team when he had Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and many others that helped win Tom Brady another ring.
The Saints have always thrived with a strong tight end. Jimmy Graham was the most notable, but Jared Cook saw his fair share of targets as well when in New Orleans. A good tight end is also a great safety net for any young quarterback and would provide more balance to the Saints’ offense.
A couple of options that the Saints could look into are Jesse James and Trey Burton. Both have shown flashes when utilized correctly, but have fallen flat in other situations. While they are far cries from Graham or even Cook, they might be better options than Nick Vannett and Adam Trautman.
