Detroit Lions Wide Receivers

You can’t fault the Detroit Lions for passing on a wide receiver in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft and taking one of the best players in the draft in offensive tackle Penei Sewell. Sewell helps the Lions take a big step on the offensive line, but where you can fault them is how long they put off taking a wide receiver.

The Lions spent their second and third-round picks on defense before finally taking a wide receiver in the fourth round with Amon-Ra St. Brown. Now, St. Brown was arguably a steal in the fourth round, but with so few weapons at the position, it seemed like a bigger need.

Currently, Detroit has three new additions as their top receivers in Breshad Perriman, Tyrell Williams and Kalif Raymond. They also return Quintez Cephus who showed flashes last year as well as T.J. Hockenson. However, none of those players have shown the ability to be the top target on a team.

The bad news for the Lions is that there aren’t many wide receivers who are still on the market, have No. 1 option abilities and will want to go to Detroit at this point in their careers. The best bet for the Lions might be to take a shot in the dark at someone trying to revive their career like Josh Gordon or maybe even Dez Bryant.
