Pittsburgh Steelers Offensive Line

Entering the 2021 NFL Draft, it was already apparent that the Pittsburgh Steelers were in need of offensive line help. Maurkice Pouncey retired following the season and Alejandro Villanueva left in free agency, leaving two big holes on the line. The Steelers added a few hands through free agency themselves, but none are in a position to start. Chukwuma Okorafor is expected to slide to left tackle with Zach Banner taking over right tackle.

Now, the Steelers did draft Kendrick Green out of Illinois in the third round who will have the potential to start at center, but that doesn’t exactly fix the line. They had far more than just one spot to fill. Pittsburgh also spent their first-round pick on Najee Harris. While Harris filled a different need at running back, it will be hard for him to succeed without a strong offensive line in front of him.

To make matters worse, the Steelers aren’t in the best financial shape in terms of cap room. One route they could go would be to add players that are let go by other teams after the draft. The Chicago Bears recently let Charles Leno Jr. go who might be a good candidate for the Steelers to bring in as a veteran presence on the line with the potential to start.
