Cincinnati Bengals 2021 NFL Draft grades: Needs have been filled
Grade: D+
Usually, drafting a kicker anywhere in the NFL Draft should result in an easy F grade. However, having watched Evan McPherson relatively closely over the past couple of seasons, I believe he has Pro Bowl potential, thus bumping the grade up slightly. Unfortunately, taking him in the fifth round of deep draft still won’t get it to a C. The lone bad grade in this solid Cincinnati Bengals 2021 NFL draft class.
Grade: A
One of my favorite Day-3 selections of any team, the Cincinnati Bengals landing Trey Hill this late in the draft is a terrific value. He is a powerful player and is thick in the lower half, providing a strong anchor that makes it tough for defenders to bull rush. While not the most athletic mover, he makes up for it with good high effort play that makes him a quality depth centerpiece that could spot start in a pinch.
Grade: B+
After the departure of Giovani Bernard in free agency, it was no surprise to see the Cincinnati Bengals add a running back in the 2021 NFL Draft. Chris Evans is a terrific fit in Cincy and can immediately add some pass-rushing upside to the Bengals backfield. He’s got soft hands, quick feet and can consistently make the first man miss.
Grade: C+
With their third edge addition of the 2021 NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals used their final pick on Wyatt Hubert out of Kansas State. A high motor player with active hands, Hubert was pretty productive in college, totaling 20 sacks in three seasons.
He does lack length and doesn’t show much eye discipline, so I anticipate a tough transition for Hubert at the next level. Would have liked to see the Bengals take a shot at someone with a more dynamic athletic profile with their last selection.
