Chicago Bears 2021 NFL Draft grades after wild weekend
Grade: A+
One round after trading up to get Fields, the Chicago Bears were on the phones again on Day-2 after Teven Jenkins surprisingly fell out of the first round. Jenkins was largely considered the third-best offensive tackle prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft but fell down the board a little bit due to some medical concerns.
The Chicago Bears clearly feel comfortable with those concerns as they traded up from 52nd overall to the Carolina Panthers spot at 39 for the opportunity to take Jenkins.
The Chicago Bears offensive line had some serious issues in 2020 and Jenkins has an opportunity to be an immediate upgrade at right tackle. He’s a nasty run blocker with big-time strength that fits the essence of the Chicago Bears to a T.
Getting their future QB1 some protection had to be priority one on Day-2 and I’m not sure they could have hoped for a better situation.
Grade: B-
After waiting for 112 picks, the Chicago Bears were finally back on the clock in the fifth round and took another offensive tackle in Larry Borom out of Missouri. This is the first pick I questioned a bit but Borom is a good player and an ideal fit in Chicago. Like Jenkins, Borom is a huge man with excellent play strength and quick feet.
He will add some nice depth to a thin offensive line in Chicago but I can’t help but question the decision to pass up on a receiver here. At the time of this pick, Ihmir Smith-Marsette and Cornell Powell were still available and would have been great additions to a receiving core in need of talent.
That being said, I still like the pick and think Borom could have a shot at developing into their swing option for the future.
