Cincinnati Bengals find important OL depth with Trey Hill selection
Nothing is more important for the Cincinnati Bengals than protecting Joe Burrow going forward. They passed on the opportunity to improve their offensive line in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, opting for wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase instead of offensive tackle Penei Sewell. However, the Bengals did address their offensive line with the selections of Jackson Carman in the second round and D’Ante Smith in the fourth.
The Cincinnati Bengals continued to add depth to their offensive line mix in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, with the selection of Georgia center Trey Hill at No. 190 overall. The Bengals struggled across the offensive line last season but were particularly weak on the interior. Adding Hill to the mix will undoubtedly help in that department.
Hill is an absolute mauler up front who wins with quick feet and dominant power at the point of attack. Hill shows the ability to accurately strike in the run game and also displays tremendous natural grip strength. Once Hill gets his hands on the defender, it is typically game over, both in the run game and as a pass protector.
Hill is probably best suited to stay at center at the next level, but he does have some guard flexibility as well. He has nice length for an interior offensive lineman and does a great job of consistently winning inside a phone booth. Hill needs to work on lowering his pad level on a more consistent basis, but he undoubtedly has some nice upside as an interior offensive line prospect.
While it is difficult to get too excited about a sixth-round interior offensive lineman, Trey Hill is a good football player who can come in and make an immediate impact for this team. At worst, Hill provides immediate depth for this team at an extremely important position of need.
