Kansas City Chiefs absolutely nail the Creed Humphrey pick
The Kansas City Chiefs saw Patrick Mahomes running for his life in the Super Bowl and vowed to not ever let that happen again. Led by the additions of Orlando Brown Jr. and Joe Thuney, the Chiefs have drastically improved their offensive line this offseason and continued to stack talent up front in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Just a few picks after landing Missouri linebacker Nick Bolton, the Kansas City Chiefs added Creed Humphrey to their offensive line mix at pick No. 63. Humphrey is one of the premier interior offensive linemen in the 2021 NFL Draft class and was undoubtedly a strong value pick for Kansas City.
Humphrey is a talented center prospect who can come in and make an immediate impact for the Chiefs. Humphrey shows tremendous on-field awareness, is extremely quick off of the ball and consistently plays with proper leverage. He is a great pass protector in the middle of the offensive line and uses his quickness to attack the second level extremely well in the run game.
The Chiefs signed Austin Blythe over the offseason and he is expected to be the team’s starting center in 2021. That being said, Humphrey’s presence on the roster could change that quickly. Humphrey is an NFL-ready offensive lineman who could come in and make an immediate impact for the team if needed.
However, if nothing else, Humphrey will provide tremendous depth for the Kansas City Chiefs on the interior offensive line. A majority of the Chiefs’ offensive line issues down the stretch happened because of injuries. Continuing to stack depth across the front line certainly makes a ton of sense.
Expect Humphrey to come in and immediately compete for the starting center position for the Kansas City Chiefs. Whether he wins that job right away or not is yet to be determined, but Humphrey will be a strong and stable starter for the Chiefs at some point in the future.
