Jacksonville Jaguars: Tyson Campbell the pick atop round two?
The Jacksonville Jaguars opened the 2021 NFL Draft exactly the way everyone expected them to by taking Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence first overall. They followed that selection up by taking Lawrence’s Clemson teammate, running back Travis Etienne, later in the first round.
With the top selection (33rd overall) to kick off day two of the 2021 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars may have already moved on to plotting what they are going to do with the 45th overall pick, which they acquired from the Minnesota Vikings last year for pass rusher Yannick Ngakoue.
Throughout the day on NFL Network, insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo have been leaking information about players who could be drafted high on day two, and Georgia cornerback Tyson Campbell has been among those getting the most publicity.
In fact, the two NFL Network insiders said you can expect Campbell to go “really, really, really, (a few more reallys)” high on day two, implying that he could potentially be headed to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Benjamin Allbright, an NFL insider for 850 KOA in Denver, tweeted out this teaser:
A number of other rumors involving Campbell and the Jaguars have surfaced, including from Albert Breer of MMQB:
Where there’s smoke…
The Jaguars obviously did quite a bit to revamp the offensive side of the ball in the first round of the draft, and it makes sense that they would shift focus to one of the best defensive players on their board to open the second round.
What would the Jaguars be getting in Campbell?
Well, just like his teammate Eric Stokes that went 29th overall in the first round to the Green Bay Packers, they would be getting a big, long cornerback with speed.
The Jaguars got one of the better press-man corners in the 2020 NFL Draft class in Florida’s CJ Henderson. They went out and got Shaquill Griffin from the Seahawks in free agency. Adding another player like Campbell to the fray would give them depth, options for their nickel package, size, and tons of talent.
Campbell in Jacksonville could be a home run pick to open up day two.
