With the fifth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals decided to add another weapon for Joe Burrow and company after selecting his former teammate with the LSU Tigers, Ja’Marr Chase. The two had an undeniable connection at LSU and the Bengals will hope that connection continues in Cincinnati.

Chase had just one season of major production with the Tigers after opting out of the 2020 season, but my goodness was that lone season impressive. He broke the SEC record for receiving yards (1,780) and touchdowns (20) in 2019, essentially solidifying his top 10 status in the process.

He is an elite route-runner and he pairs that with a physicality at the wide receiver position that the Cincinnati Bengals don’t currently have on the outside. His hands showed terrific improvement from his freshman season, and once Chase gets the football, it is not easy to bring him to the ground. Chase is a true WR1 that will be the perfect complement to what Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins already provide Joe Burrow and that Cincinnati offense.

Chase was largely considered the best wide receiver prospect in the 2021 NFL draft so it’s hard to find any real negatives with the pick itself, but there are a lot of fans that were expecting the pick to be offensive tackle Penei Sewell. The Bengals are clearly comfortable with the depth of the offensive line prospects and are likely to make that the focus of their next pick at 38. Let’s take a look at where the Cincinnati Bengals could go with their remaining picks in the 2021 NFL Draft.
