4. Asante Samuel Jr., CB, Florida State

The cornerback class is another that has plenty of depth in the 2021 NFL Draft, and the Green Bay Packers will take advantage. It’s very possible that with 10 selections, the corner position is one that may be a double-dip for Gutey and company this year.

Kevin King is back on a one-year deal, but he’s struggled in big moments. It seems unlikely he re-signs long-term, but for now, he likely remains the starter. A long-term solution is needed opposite Jaire Alexander, and it might be a player who has the versatility to play both outside and inside. One of those players is Florida State’s Asante Samuel Jr.

Samuel could potentially come in and play nickel to start for the Packers. While that may not excite Packers fans, especially for a first-round pick, the nickel position is more valuable than ever, and Samuel would move outside in 2021. Samuel has excellent instincts in off coverage and reads the quarterbacks’ eyes so well. He sticks his nose in the run game, has excellent patience in man, and is a pest at the catch point.

Samuel would be undersized for the Packers’ thresholds, but he’s a darn good player and would be worth bucking the trend for.
