Green Bay Packers: First-round targets in the 2021 NFL Draft
3. Trevon Moehrig, S, TCU
As was mentioned before, Barry is going to want more help at the safety position to strengthen the secondary and to bring the three safety look up to the Green Bay Packers. It’s not a strong class, but there are a few players worth taking where the Packers pick at safety.
Trevon Moehrig is one of those players. Moehrig brings a ton of versatility to the table. He can play in the slot, in the box, in a deep half look, and has reps at single high. He can be successful at all of those spots and would thrive in the Packers defense.
Moehrig can fly downhill and make plays against the run and is a great wrap-up tackler. He closes well in coverage and times things well at the catch point. He’s very assignment-oriented and does a great job getting to his spot, whether that be sticking to players in his zone or getting in receivers’ pockets. He has the instincts to read the quarterbacks’ eyes and has good processing skills.
It would be good to see Moehrig finish more at the catch point and convert turnovers more, but his 2019 shows that even if 2020 was a bit lacking. Moehrig would enjoy plenty of success in Barry’s defense in Green Bay.
